The long-awaited US Court of Appeals decision on TiVo v. DISH/EchoStar came down split ... but with the scales weighted to TiVo.

It's Revolution time in New Orleans (officially starting today) so naturally DIRECTV is unleashing all kinds of news. Among the latest: An agreement giving DIRECTV HBO customers free access to the big premium's new online video offerings, HBO GO and MAX GO, starting today. (Said CEO Mike White to the WSJ, ""The days of watching a show at a set time in your living room have long passed.") DTV also announced the addition of 16 new markets to DTV's HD locals' roster due sometime this summer. (Fifteen of those will be first times for local DTV offerings period.)

The folks at DISH say Blockbuster's 1,700 store locations, highly recognizable brand the multiple methods of delivery are worth around $320M ($228M of it in cash). Movie-theater owners responded with outrage Thursday after a trade magazine reported that four of Hollywood's six major studios had signed on with a new video-on-demand proposition from DirecTV Inc., offering movies to rent for $30 only 60 days after being released in theaters.
